Slime is loads of fun for kids — but not so fun when it ends up stuck to your sofa, carpet, or dining table! At DIY Slime Party Ltd, we’ve seen it all, and luckily we know how to fix it. Here’s our step-by-step guide to removing slime from different types of furniture safely.
1. General Tips Before You Start
Act quickly: The fresher the slime, the easier it is to remove.
Scrape, don’t rub: Use a spoon or blunt knife to lift off as much slime as possible before cleaning.
Test first: Always test cleaning solutions on a small hidden area to avoid damage.
2. Cleaning Slime from Fabric Sofas
Scrape off excess slime gently with a spoon.
Mix 1 part white vinegar with 2 parts warm water.
Dip a cloth in the solution and blot the slime stain (don’t scrub).
Rinse with a clean damp cloth.
Allow to air dry.👉 Pro tip: For stubborn spots, add a drop of dish soap to the mix.
3. Cleaning Slime from Carpets & Rugs
Remove as much slime as possible with a blunt knife.
Apply vinegar solution (as above) directly to the stain.
Blot with a clean towel — repeat until the slime lifts.
Once gone, rinse with warm water and blot dry.
Vacuum once fully dry to fluff the carpet back up.
4. Cleaning Slime from Wooden Furniture
Carefully peel away the slime — avoid scraping too hard to protect the wood.
Wipe the area with a damp cloth and mild dish soap.
Dry with a soft towel.👉 Avoid vinegar here, as it may damage wood finishes.
5. Cleaning Slime from Leather Sofas & Chairs
Gently lift off excess slime with a spoon.
Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water.
Dampen a cloth and wipe the area.
Dry with a clean towel.
Apply a leather conditioner if you have one to keep the leather supple.
6. When in Doubt…
If slime has dried deep into fabrics or left a tricky stain, consider using a professional upholstery cleaner.
Bonus: Prevent Future Slime Mishaps
Always use aprons and table covers during slime play.
Keep a pack of baby wipes handy for quick clean-ups.
